Generosity Begets Generosity

I’ve been watching generosity in action this week. Our church is hosting M&M Camp for the children of this community. The “m’s” stand for Music and Mission, providing a framework for spiritual growth through a children’s musical and giving opportunities.

You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous in every way. Such generosity produces thanksgiving to God through us. 2 Corinthians 9:11

Apart from sharing the halls with more than the usual amount of energy, staff, volunteers and kids have been exploring new ways of relating to their resources and to each other. Time, snacks, music, artistry, and a huge supply of good-natured fun are just some of the things that are filling the reservoir. There’s a clothing drive, too. And vegetable plants for the fire-fighters down the street. We’re looking forward to a Sunday afternoon celebration sharing song, art projects, new discoveries and new friends. I’m reminded that ministry comes in all kinds of packages. This week has made us rich! Love and life has been poured into precious children – and they are pouring it all over us! God’s Kingdom is getting stronger and larger by the vision of love that has been shared!

Global Women Connecting has been given a vision, too. Since 1955 we have built friendships, encouraged prayers, and shared stories to promote Christian unity. God’s loving conversion has been revealed through the relationships we have become open to.

Henri Nouwen says it this way: “We belong together in our work because Jesus has brought us together, and our fruitfulness depends on staying connected with him. Jesus tells us: “I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5)”

We connect through Jesus to work together. We work together and are fruitful. We give our fruits and help God build the Kingdom.

It is amazing when we open our lives and give to each other. It is a joy-filled experience when we open our hearts to receive. The children are showing us how this week. May we bless God and the expanding Kingdom by following the example.
